I host a blog carnival and I agree with you to some extent. Over half the articles submitted have nothing to do with the carnival topic (public speaking) and many of the participants ignore the requirement of linking from their site to the carnival. Of course, I've had the pleasure of meeting some great folks through doing these carnivals.

My carnival used to be monthly but I'm considering making it quarterly because it's tough to find the time to dedicate to it. I make the effort to promote the carnival on all the social networking sites to give the participants the most benefit.

Lady: It does benefit both the host and the submitters. I tend to think the long-term benefit is more for the submitters than for the host. The host gets a bit of traffic, while the submitter gets a more or less permanent backlink, which contributes to their placement in the search results forever basically.

It requires a fair bit of work to host a decent carnival. It takes almost no effort to submit a post to a carnival. That's why I feel hosts are being taken advantage of.

Hello! I found your blog through a link of a link.

Anyhow, I was reading this post, and I was wondering why you mentioned that blog carnival hosts are taken advantage of? How and why does this happen in particular? I thought the whole set-up was both beneficial for the blogger and the carnival host. Kindly enlighten me please. :)

Many thanks.
